So it pains me to admit this but... I've finally realized and have come to terms with the fact that my hair is NOT HEAT PROOF! I know, I know, you guys are probably saying, "Well, DUH!" But in my 4 years of being natural, I have been almost completely heat dependent. And it's not that my hair hasn't grown because it has, it's that the heat (I'm convinced) is responsible for my ends splitting frequently. My hair, when stretched out, reaches right below my collar bone and I cannot seem to get it to grow further because every time it grows, it splits. I just cut off about an inch last week because of nasty ends. So I needed to try something new! For months I have been looking at my hair, while it was wet, and wondering how I could freeze my wet hair so I could wear it. So I began researching wash and goes. Needless to say I have a new regimen!!! And I absolutely LOOOOVE IT!!!! I wash my hair with Wen, which is a clarifying conditioner, once a week. I also deep condition once a week for up to an hour with heat (right now I'm using Shea Mousture's Anti-Breakage Masque). From there I towel dry my hair with a regular t shirt and seperate it into two section (the front half and the back half). From here it's all about styling products. First I apply a leave in to both sections, the leave in conditioner I use right now is called Curls Crème Brule. To seal in the moisture I use good old coconut oil. To get a little definition to my curls I use the popular Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel. Then I use the blow dryer with a diffuser on a warm and low setting. While I'm diffusing I pull my hair to keep it stretched. After it's about 60% dry, I switch the tip of the blow dryer to the concentrator and focus mostly on stretching the roots by pulling the ends. The end result is fluffy, big and soft!!!At night I simply massage some coconut oil in focusing on the ends of my hair, and then I pineapple (loosely ponytail) it on the top of my head. I put a bonnet on and I'm done!!!
Way quicker than my old regimen! As for the products, I tend to switch it up every time I run out. The only products I keep consistent are the Wen, coconut oil, and the Eco Styler Gel. My hair in the picture below is a 3 day old wash and go. With love... ... Steph
