On the road to long healthy I'm sure we've all heard all types of crazy tips and tricks to get the desired hair growth. But this method seems a bit a normal compared to putting Monistat on your scalp. This method is called the Inversion method. Each night for 7 days straight, you apply the oil of your choice to your scalp (by sure to message the oil in). After the oil is applied, tilt your head upside down for about 5 minutes. It's easier if you lay on the bed with your head tilting of the bed. I haven't tried this yet but it seems fairly easy to do and I already have everything I need. What tricks do you have to promote hair growth?
Peace, Danielle

Lately I've been loving hair accessories; from headbands to hair clips- and now exposed bobby pins. This idea entirely came from the beautiful Naptural85 on YouTube. You can always go out and buy bobby pins that are a different color from your hair, but I used one of my favorite nail polishes from OPI to save money. 1. Fold a piece of paper and slide the bobby pins smooth side up. 2. Next all you have to do it paint the bobby pins and let them dry. 3. Bun your hair and have fun accessorizing! Here I have three just in the front of my bun... But you can also place them in the back of the bun... Sticking out of the bun... And the other options are endless!!! With love... ... Steph So it pains me to admit this but... I've finally realized and have come to terms with the fact that my hair is NOT HEAT PROOF! I know, I know, you guys are probably saying, "Well, DUH!" But in my 4 years of being natural, I have been almost completely heat dependent. And it's not that my hair hasn't grown because it has, it's that the heat (I'm convinced) is responsible for my ends splitting frequently. My hair, when stretched out, reaches right below my collar bone and I cannot seem to get it to grow further because every time it grows, it splits. I just cut off about an inch last week because of nasty ends. So I needed to try something new! For months I have been looking at my hair, while it was wet, and wondering how I could freeze my wet hair so I could wear it. So I began researching wash and goes. Needless to say I have a new regimen!!! And I absolutely LOOOOVE IT!!!! I wash my hair with Wen, which is a clarifying conditioner, once a week. I also deep condition once a week for up to an hour with heat (right now I'm using Shea Mousture's Anti-Breakage Masque). From there I towel dry my hair with a regular t shirt and seperate it into two section (the front half and the back half). From here it's all about styling products. First I apply a leave in to both sections, the leave in conditioner I use right now is called Curls Crème Brule. To seal in the moisture I use good old coconut oil. To get a little definition to my curls I use the popular Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel. Then I use the blow dryer with a diffuser on a warm and low setting. While I'm diffusing I pull my hair to keep it stretched. After it's about 60% dry, I switch the tip of the blow dryer to the concentrator and focus mostly on stretching the roots by pulling the ends. The end result is fluffy, big and soft!!!At night I simply massage some coconut oil in focusing on the ends of my hair, and then I pineapple (loosely ponytail) it on the top of my head. I put a bonnet on and I'm done!!!
Way quicker than my old regimen! As for the products, I tend to switch it up every time I run out. The only products I keep consistent are the Wen, coconut oil, and the Eco Styler Gel. My hair in the picture below is a 3 day old wash and go. With love... ... Steph
A few months ago, in my "MyGlam Bag" (now known as "Ipsy")... I received this Marbella Permanent Eyeliner... I wanted to do a review on this product because I was severely disappointed in the $15.00 eyeliner.
First Impressions It may come as no surprise that this eyeliner was hard to remove. It seemed to dry out my skin around the eye and stain the skin black. Even after repetitive washing the stained lines remained!!! Aside from that, the application was flawless. The black line that came from this pen was very opaque and not washed out like most eyeliner pens. So at first I was willing to use this eyeliner as a "once in a while" eyeliner. But then..... Final Impressions After 3 months of on and off use, the eyeliners smell changed to a fishy smell... Silly me did not listen to the warning my nose gave me and I applied it anyway... I went to dance practice and of course i sweated, after one of my team members called to my attention, that my eyeliner had followed a trail of sweat down my face. Which would be okay with me, but I realized that I couldn't wipe this stained "eyeliner tear" away. There I was plastered with an eyeliner mark all the way down my cheek for the rest of practice and the ride home... EMBARRASSING!!! Needless to say I have thrown this eyeliner OUT! I DO NOT recommend this product to anyone... as the packaging clearly lies. Even in new condition this eyeliner is too harsh for the skin, for everyday use... BIG waste of money... with love... ....Steph
Yup, that’s right. It’s exactly what it sounds like. A sorority for natural hair. As of July 4, 2011(Afro Day) Pi Nappa Kappa was established “to provide a platform for natural hair women around the world to come together to discuss their natural hair and living lifestyles” as stated on their website. Like any other sororities they sorority colors, pink, turquoise blue, and chocolate brown, a sorority flower, the African violet, and even a hand sign. But most importantly founding principle “Self Love, Sisterly Love, Community Service, Teamwork and support for our ‘natural sisters’ around the world and to aide in their spiritual and personal growth as women of color. Pi Nappa Kappa Sorority’s ultimate is to be a 'universally-recognized' natural hair and natural living sorority for women of color.”
I’m all for the fellowship of curly girls all over the world but I don’t deem hair important enough to start a sorority over. I understand that natural hair can sometimes receive negative criticism but today in 2012 natural does not hold any body back. Maybe fifty years ago natural hair may have been viewed as improper, but today people are not being deny jobs or an education simply because of their hair. Once again I will say I am all for the fellowship of curly girls all over the world but had there been a sorority for chemically straighten hair the naturally hair community would had cow!!!! Have women been deny membership to other sororities because of their natural hair? Are natural hair forums, blogs and you tube videos not enough? And am I late? Is everyone in the natural hair community over this? Would you join this sorority or any other natural hair sorority? I still have questions so at this moment, I would not join this sorority or any other like this. Because although putting out a positive message, I still feel that it is forcing a division amongst women of color over some as trivial as hair. What are your thoughts about this? Would you join? Peace Danielle Thanks to old man winter, I've spent the entire weekend in the house. And yeah that was fine Saturday. I had leftover chinese food and netflix, I was completely content with life. But then Sunday rolled and I got bored out of my mind. And with an itchy scalp killing me I decided it was time to do my hair. So I did a little research to see what sooth my scalp, and TADA!!! I found it!!!! A rosemary rinse!! Not only does this rinse make hair shiner, it also brings out the highlights in even the darkest hair(mine!!!). The vinegar in the rinse restores natural pH which will help prevent an itchy scalp. The best thing about this rinse is it was easy to make. All you need is rosemary water and apple cider vinegar (white vinegar works as well).
Peace, Danielle Have you noticed an increase of naturals around you? I certainly have and yet I don’t know how to feel about it. One side of me is happy(high-fives all around) to see women embracing their natural hair. The other feel like these women are big phonies!!!! Only having natural hair because it’s “in.” When I was transitioning a few years ago, I constantly got stares everywhere I went. People just couldn’t seem to understand why one would not want to get a relaxer. Now that they are more naturals I question their motives? Did they become natural because it’s more accepted and they feel more comfortable with their self or simply because it’s cute on Solange and will be cute on them as well. The hair care industry has certain noticed the increase. Now every major hair care company have products geared specifically towards curly and products for naturally curly hair are making their way on the shelves of Target and Walmart. With this commercial success, I again question sincerity. Is this movement about acceptance of one’s natural self or about the look of natural? Or am I just kicking up dust and creating an issue that isn’t there? This could be true. Because hair is grown from one’s physical being, it is their property. Giving them the right to do as they please. And being an artist, I feel that one should be able to express themselves in any avenue possible (hair being one of those avenue). Meaning if you what to grease it and weave it up, go head then, you want to shave the middle of your head, get girl, but if want to be natural please be sincere!!!! Do it because you no longer want to be a slave to hair appointments and flatirons, you no longer want to scared of the rain or going to gym in fearing the life your precious “edges.”…..I know I went a little far but you get the point. lol. Steph and I plan on interviewing women about their decision on going. I look forward to hearing different perspective on the topic. What do you think? Peace Danielle |
